Just around the corner...

Hello Parents and Students,

Can you believe the first day of school is just around the corner?  I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful summer weather we are having.

I will be contacting you as the first day of school draws closer.  Until then, I have included a helpful link for the uniform guidelines.   You can find the supply list on the home page of our class blog.

Please click here for uniform guidelines.

I am looking forward to meeting all of you!

Paperwork Reminders

Here are a few general paperwork reminders:
  • Language Arts and Mathematic assignments for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays should be able to be completed independently by students, or with limited review by parents.
  • If a student is struggling to understand a concept, please take the time to reteach the concept and let me know by making a notation on the student's work.  Then have student again attempt to complete assignment independently.
  • All work assigned on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays must be graded by parents.
  • Checklist must be turned in weekly, with grades provided.  Please see blog for grading outline.  We do not use an A, B, C, etc. when grading work completed at home or a "star" or "check" system.  We use a positive point system.  The writing rubric is also on the blog; it also uses a point system.
  • A complete and "clean" work record must be turned in weekly - the only things that are to be written on it are the student's name on the cover page, book titles for independent reading assignments, and spellingcity.com activities.
  • Please do not put an "x" on the work record, on days your student is in school.  Please remember this is a legal document and those day do "count" for attendance purposes.
  • Learning Logs cannot have cross outs or white out on them.  They must be completed with blue or black ink pen and turned in at the end of each learning period.  They must be signed and dated the last school day of the Learning Period, not a vacation or weekend date.
  • PE minutes must be a structured activity, recess minutes or "free play" at a park are not considered PE minutes.  Students need to have a minimum activity level of 100 minutes per week.  Weekend activity minutes (ie, 3 mile family hike or football game) should be recorded on a day during the school week.

PE Logs

The P.E. logs can be found on the blog under the Student Learning Logs tab.

A few things to remember:

  • 100 minutes minimum are required each week
  • PE minutes must be structured activities, not simply "played at the park"
  • If your child is sick, PE minutes may be completed by looking up and discussing ways to prevent getting sick, healthy food options, etc. and write a summary paragraph of information learned.
  • PE minutes must be logged with dates that reflect school dates (ie, M-F and not on holidays or weekends)
  • PE logs will be collected at LP meetings, along with the Learning Logs
  • Click here for the link to CA Department of Education for a list of standards your student should be working on as a fourth grader.  The fourth grade standards begin on page 25.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Mrs. Fuori
